Helpful hints to have a quick and comfortable recovery.

The gauze that was placed may be removed in 30-45 minutes. Generally, no additional gauze needs to placed. Minor oozing (pink color in saliva) is normal for 12-24 hours. Additional gauze may be placed if increased bleeding is seen (bright red blood or way more blood than saliva). A damp gauze should be placed directly on socket, and firm biting held for 60 minutes.

A soft diet is OK following your procedure. Well cooked vegetables, ground meats, pastas, and soups are considered soft. Avoid peanuts, popcorn, and foods with seeds for 7 days.

No smoking and no straws for 7 days following tooth removal.

Take pain medicine as prescribed. If you are healthy, it is safe to take 3200mg of ibuprofen (Advil) and 3000mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) in a 24 hour period. Be aware that some medications may already contain acetaminophen. Be sure to follow any specific instructions our doctor gave you based on your medical history and previously prescribed medications.

You may begin gently brushing with regular toothpaste and rinsing with warm salt water (8 ounces of water with 1/2 teaspoon of table salt) the day after your procedure.
